Become a citizen scientist
Help us spot color-banded birds!
Have you been seeing cute little birds wearing colored bands on their legs?
Have you wondered who is doing that, how they catch them, and why they are doing it?
Well, the birds are either Black-capped Chickadees, or Chestnut-backed Chickadees,
and we need your help sighting them. This year these birds are being banded in the
Briarcrest neighborhood by members of the Puget Sound Bird Observatory (PSBO) as part
of a bird populations study called
Wintering in Urban Landscapes
This project is a part of Shoreline's Community Wildlife Habitat Project.
Our goal is to find out how winter birds use plants, especially native plants, in local
backyards and how much these birds fly around between yards.
We currently have just one test backyard. However, next year we expect to add several
more backyards (in groups of three yards at a time).
Please help us by watching for these birds and filling out the form.
